Ida Levitas Goldstein was born in Bialystok, Poland and came with her family to the United States when she was seven years of age. She grew up in Atlanta and attended public schools although she did get a religious education as well. She discusses her youth, relatives, friends and colleagues, social experiences, religious observances, the Leo M. Frank case, and the relationship of the various parts of the Jewish religious community. Ida later became very active in all manner of Jewish organizations including the Jewish Educational Alliance and Hadassah. She married Louis J. Levitas and they had two sons (Theodore and Elliott). Elliott Levitas became a United States Representative during the time Jimmy Carter was President.
