Adele Finkelstein Effel was born in Baxley, Georgia where her father operated a shoe repair shop and clothing store. She attended public schools in Baxley and then attended the University of Georgia. She married Nathan Effel and they settled in Atlanta where she opened Adele's Style Shop in Decatur, Georgia. Adele discusses her childhood and Jewish life in small town Georgia, her father's business, her marriage and family, and the civil rights era.
