Jennie Shamos Fitterman was born in 1912 in Atlanta, Georgia. Her parents had come to the United States from Russia (now the Ukraine). Her father was a peddler and then move into the grocery trade. She discusses her family, childhood in Atlanta, education, various synagogues, the traditions of Judaism, race relations, the Workmen's Circle (her father was a socialist). Jewish youth groups (Young Judaea and Junior Hadassah), her marriage to Leo Fitterman, and their family.
