Freedman Jack OHC.JPG

Jack Freedman was born in Atlanta, Georgia. His parents were from Russia and Lithuania. They originally settled in Sandersville, Georgia but moved to Atlanta before Jack was born. Another part of the family settled in Savannah, Georgia. He recounts his childhood and family, discusses the Jewish neighborhoods, friends, sports and youth activities. Jack joined the Navy during World War II and became a Navy pilot. He was posted in the Philippines and South America. His family was in the furniture trade and he himself worked in the import/exports business, plastics, real estate and most recently (1992) the oil exploration business. He married Phyllis Blonder after the war and they had two children. Jack has been very active in the Atlanta Jewish community serving on the boards of the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta, the William Breman Jewish Home, the Ahavath Achim synagogue, Organization for Rehabilitative Training (ORT) and the Epstein School. Jack discusses the prominent Jewish and non-Jewish personalities in the Atlanta community over the years.
