David L. Slann founded Butler's Shoes in West Palm Beach, Florida in 1926. During the next decade Butler's grew to a chain of 12 stores throughout Florida and Georgia. In 1939 Butler's acquired Pollocks founded by Ben and Lou Pollock. That same year, Slann moved Butler's corporate headquarters to Atlanta. David Slann was extremely active in a wide range of Jewish community activities in Atlanta including the Atlanta Jewish Community Center, the Jewish Home for the Aged, Israel Bond Organization, the Atlanta Bureau of Jewish Education and the Hebrew Academy of Atlanta. The collection consists of newspaper articles relating to the numerous activities of David Slann as well as correspondence and obituaries relating to his death in 1962.
