Dr. Robert Benjamin Greenblatt enlisted in the medical corp of the U.S. Navy in 1941. He served in the Navy Pacific Fleet, took part in the invasion of Okinawa, where his ship was hit and severely damaged by kamikaze pilots. He later commanded a beachhead triage unit and was among the first scientists to inspect the medical effects of the atomic bomb on the Japanese at Nagasaki.
