A Holocaust survivor, Helen Wasserman Spiegel emigrated from Germany to the United States in 1938. The collection consists of an ALS signed Selma Grausmann to David Grausmann, 9th Bavarian Infantry Regiment 6th Company on June 8, 1917. It is stamped "Zurick" (Return) and "Auf dem Felde der Ehre gefallen" (Died on the field of honor). This letter notified the Grausmann family that David had died in battle. The collection also consists of a military passport for Hans Wasserman; a German passport for Hans Waserman, pre-dating the Nazis, 1925-1927; a German passport for Hans Wasserman from the Nazi Era, 1938; a certificate stating the Iron Cross awarded Hans Wasserman during World War I was only on loan and must now be voided; and a photocopy of the ship manifest listing Wasserman family members on the S.S. Washington enroute to the United States, 1938.
