Benator Asher OHC.JPG

Asher Isaac Benator was born in Atlanta in 1931; his parents came from from Turkey and Rhodes (Greece) in early 1900s. He describes life in a Sephardic Jewish family and Or VeShalom's early days. He attended Georgia State University, graduating with an MBA in 1955. He married his wife, Grace, and had three children: Michael, Sam, and Michelle. He entered the supermarket business and then the real estate business. Asher discusses the immigration of his parents from Rhodes and Turkey, his childhood, acquaintances and friends, Sephardic customs and practices, his ancestors and his immediate family, his military service, Or VeShalom (he was president), his career in the grocery trade, and his activities in the Jewish community.
