Vivian Frankel was born in Boston, Massachusetts and grew up in nearby Roxbury, Massachusetts. She married Ephraim Frankel and moved to Atlanta in 1967. She taught at the Greenfield Hebrew Academy for nineteen years (her husband was the headmaster). She is the mother of four children and was active in Congregation Beth Jacob and the Jewish religious educational experience in Atlanta.
