Joseph Haas was born in Atlanta to one of the first Jewish families to settle in that city. Haas' father Herbert Haas served as one of Leo M. Frank's attorneys. Joseph followed his father into the legal profession and was a senior partner with the law firm of Arnall Golden & Gregory. During the Civil Rights movement Joseph Haas served as the chief legal counsel for the Voter Education Project and the Southern Regional Council. Haas committment to social justice continued throughout his life. The collection consists of photocopies of correspondence from Herbert Haas, attorney of Leo M. Frank and various correspondents including Leo M. Frank, 1915 and photcopies and original material relating to the Haas family genealogy. Arranged in chronological order.
